New year and future generation
31st Dec 1998 vijay @wmi.co.in
dear friends, my greetings on this last day of the year 1998 and best wishes for the year 1999. Today I was seeing TVI channel on TV and saw the programme on Child labour. It pertained to bidi workers in vellore and surrounding villages where 50000 children between 6 and 16 years are rolling bidis for 6-8 Rs a day. These children have been pledged by their parents to an agent for years to do this work in return of the money they borrowed .And they serve from 8 am to 9.30 pm every day.Yet they cannot return the debts. I could not believe it. Here we are enjoying and celebrating ,when the real India and the future India is suffering. What a paradox. Does anyone have any solution for this? These people are poor; because they are poor ; because they are poor!!. Are local netas watching this program? This was of Tamilnadu .Then they showed the village near agra where young girls of age 6 onward are sold to red light areas as a tradition. This is inspite of the year 1995 which was declared by the Govt Of India as "child year". The report says that India tops the list in child labor. Can someone from vellore or Agra or nearby places enlighten us more? Thanks.
