Access your Hotmail account through your own email software. POP Access to
your Hotmail account allows you to download your Hotmail to your own PC
using an email software such as Netscape Mail, Eudora, MS Outlook or ICQ
as well as most other popular email client software packages. This will let
you minimize your connection time by reading, composing, and viewing your
email using your Email software, on-line and off-line without advertising.
Minimize the time you spend on-line. Don't pay Internet connection charges
while reading and composing email. Free your phone line for incoming calls.
Access Hotmail when phone rates are cheaper, but read and compose anytime.
Don't spend time downloading graphics with each message. Download messages
to your laptop so you can read and compose while traveling.
Store messages on your computer
Keep important messages on your hard drive for easy access, anytime. Store
as many messages and attachments as you like.
Get Hotmail without advertising.
Read your messages without viewing advertising banners.
Be notified automatically upon having new messages !!!
How POP3 Access to Hotmail works:
When you log in to Hotmail at www.Hotmail.com you are on-line and connected
to the Internet the whole time you are reading and composing email. Hotmail
Express POP3 Access allows you to download messages to your computer using a
commercially available Email package that supports the Post Office Protocol
(POP3) e.g. - Netscape, Eudora, MS Outlook Express etc. After you have sent
or received messages, you can terminate the Internet connection. This lets
you read and compose messages while offline. You only need to connect to
the Internet when receiving or sending new messages. To take advantage of
this service, you must have a POP3 compliant piece of email software.
Fortunately, a POP3 email application is typically integrated into your web
browser so you probably have the email software you need. Popular software
packages that can be used with POP3 Access to Hotmail include: Microsoft
(Outlook, Outlook Express), Netscape (Mail, Communicator), and Qualcomm
(Eudora Light, Eudora
Pro).
Mail should be free, and thanks to Hotmail it is. Unfortunately, Hotmail
requires you to read and send email using a Web browser--hardly intuitive.
Luckily, there's Hotmail Express, a utility that lets you access your
Hotmail data using a standard POP3 server. With Hotmail Express installed,
you can minimize your online time and send and receive mail via Hotmail
using a
standard email client. Hotmail Express is a must for anyone with a Hotmail
account.

Nikhil Kelshikar @indo.net
Hi Mates, Well I am one of the millions of Hotmail users bugged with Hotmail for not offering POP and was really excited about such a service wherin I could POP all my messages but then there has to somee catch can anything to do with Microsoft come without them. No ads and stuff was reeally exciting.. Well the catch is it does download your mail (great!!) but the content of the mail is a link to the HOTMAIL site.. So basically it just downloads message headers but not the message. So its another useless 300K download !! You can try it at www.cwebmail.com All the best. IIf someone else esp the guys who suggested it have had different experiences pls share it. I personally would love to use something like this.. Nikhil Given below is what u get as a downloaded mail... -----Original Message----- From: Nikhil KelshikarDate: Sunday, January 03, 1999 5:12 AM Subject: Cheeeck >Content-Type: text/plain >Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > >

Hi! Harshal, I am also having the same problem as Nikhil, I get only Hypertext link. I am using Netscape 4.5 and have set the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server as smtp.hotmail.cwebmail.com and the Incoming Mail Server as pop.hotmail.cwebmail.com What are the other settings to receive only text messages.
