Private ISP's

Hi. Wanted your feedback on the private ISPs - Satyam, Mantra, MTNL, anyone else. The good, the bad, the experiences and the wishlist. And yes, are you thinking of switching from VSNL to one of the pvt ISPs? Why (yes and no)? Thanks. Sarita

hi, first of all, i would like to ask you that are you the same sarita aggarwal who writes a page or two in every issue of Computers Today ?? Now for your answer, i am very much satisfied with the services of VSNL and do not intend to switch over to any other ISP. I have tried MTNL and thought the connection provided was not so good. It was four months back and i am not aware of the current status. Thanx Satyam Raj

Hi Friends, I got satyam 25 hours account to see, to check if they are any better than VSNL in the month of April. Faced lot's of problems during registration. When I went to their office to get registration , their were around 5 people with their Sad stories. Got my registration done in appox 35 minutes, Next problem very difficult to log on , because of line congestion, sever down, generator failure, etc. etc. Their 24 Hours help line , puts you in a queue for more than 30 -40 minutes. If they take down your phone number and tells you that they will call you back, than it means that your complaint had gone in a black hole. In the three months , I was able to use only 8-9 hours of their usage time. Some where in the middle of July , my account expired. When I had bought their account in the month of April, Nowhere it was mentioned that 25 hours had be utilized in 3 months. It was only latter they added this rider. When I pointed this out to Satyam people, they agreed that it was never written in their any publicity brochure and on any document they had given to me, but this fact was brought to the notice of a customer during registration process( which was done im my case at their office). My 16-17 hours are still unutilized, if any one wants it , can take it from me free of cost. Rakesh Ralli

Hi Sarita! I have had a VSNL connection for a long time. And although private ISPs do offer better services---its easier to get connected, VSNL has so far been very consistent. Moreover, you can get VSNL connection from most of the major Indian cities. MTNL offers its servises only in Bombay and Cal. Same goes for the rest.

Hi Rakesh, > I got satyam 25 hours account to see, to check if they are any better > than VSNL in the month of April. It is unlikely that newbie ISPs will be able to offer better service than VSNL at this time - remember VSNL has had four years to get its act together while the others are currently using their customers as unpaid (in fact, paying!) beta-testers for their services. VSNL has had its share of problems too - the earlier batch of users (1995 / 96) will recall the frequent outages of service, on occasion lasting over 24 hours at a time, and the 'security issues' which VSNL had to tackle WRT the TALK and FINGER commands, not to mention the other little issue about people being able to read other peoples messages. In the present scenario, if one had a choice one should stick to VSNL. After all a known devil is better than an unknown one. > Got my registration done in appox 35 minutes, Next problem very > difficult to log on , because of line congestion, sever down, generator Does anyone here have statistics about the user / working phone ratio offered by the various ISPs? > failure, etc. etc. Their 24 Hours help line , puts you in a queue for > > more than 30 -40 minutes. If they take down your phone number and tells > you that they will call you back, than it means that your complaint had > gone in a black hole. Someone ought to set up some kind of ISPwatch and record these problems. I would be happy to do this if enough people from across the country promise to support me and give me feedback. > Some where in the middle of July , my account expired. Looks like a case for the Consumers Forum, if you want to pursue it. > My 16-17 hours are still unutilized, if any one wants it , can take it > from me free of cost. I don't mind giving it a go... Friends, Discussing on the subject, I would mention one thing is that the DOT at Hyderabad is getting connected at a speed not more then 33 kbps. Where as Pioneer Online and Tossex internet service is getting connected at the speed of 56. This is noticed many times. I don't know about Satyam and others. Any body else have such observation? -- =================================================================== =====THE PACKAGING PEOPLE===== E-MAIL: [email protected] PACKAGING, SEALING, LABELLING, MARKING SYSTEMS, ACCESSORIES.
