These statements are, in part, correct. I do not think, however, that Nehru screwed up India intentionally. Population of J&K was Muslim and the Maharaja Hindu; population of Hyderabad was Hindu and the Maharaja Muslim. Hindu's leanings were with India and Muslim's towards Pakistan. Patel decided to takeover Hyderabad and would have tried to control the situation in Kashmir. But Nehru came in the way. Not only that, Kashmir was protected: Non-residents could not start a business, buy land, or do any thing with out involvement of residents. This left most outside Hindus outside. Over time, the population became predominantly Muslim.//R.C.Sharma
