Dear Ramkumar, > Please share your experiences in participating in affiliate programs. I have been involved with over 100 affiliate programs - I am listing some points about them in random order. These can be used successfully to make money (for the affiliate) under certain conditions, such as if the affiliate has a captive audience like subscribers to affiliates newsletter, webzine, mailing list or if the affiliate is held in high regard and people value the recommendations made by the affiliate. These programs will not make money for the affiliate just by placing a link on affiliates web page or inserting a line in SIG file, as is often implied and very often done. These programs are often abused by the principal company - principal has the right to terminate, which is not fair, many principals do not pay affiliates commission for subsequent sales made by a buyer introduced by the affiliate, some principals use dubious techniques like asking the buyer referred by the affiliate to manually enter the affiliated ID when making the purchase, in the absence of which commission is not paid to the affiliate. The affiliate program scheme provides a means to the principal for not getting into a formal reseller relationship with the person who does the referring / reselling. This has short term and long term advantages for the principal and many long term disadvantages for the seller or affiliate. For example, I have always been able to negotiate a higher commission than offered in the standard affiliate program by negotiating directly with the sales department, in addition to getting a free / demo product or service. To make even a small amount of money from affiliate programs, you need to be a very popular netizen. Like me. Thank you!
