HTML and long lines

20th Jan 1999      Aseem Asthana @bom4.vsnl.net.in

Hello there,

I want to suggest that we should not post messages in both the plain
text and HTML formats to the list. For people like me, who read the list
in a digest form, the HTML appears in all its inner beauty - I mean to
say it is not interpreted and it is presented with all the HTML tabs
present making reading diff, and one has to pass it over. I think plain
test works fine and we should all send msgs in plain text. Bye, the way
I use netscape messanger for reading my mail

Another thing is that the moderator should establish a line lenght for
the messages. That is because that diff mail readers have diff default
line lenghts if the line is longer then it puts the remaining line on
the next line giving the msgX-X-Mozilla-Status: 00095 should be fine as
line lenght.

Thats all for now.

Bye,
Aseem.

Dear Friends,

As a fellow INN member mentioned earlier, those who receive INN Digest
emails, cannot read the HTML included and hence it looks very bad. In order
to make your own queries/replies/suggestions visible to all of INN members,
it would be a wise decision to turn off the HTML format.

If you use Outlook Express, there are two methods on how to do this:

Method (1) : Selectively Turn off HTML.

(1) Open your Address Book.
(2) Add a new Contact : INN Members
                Email : [email protected]
(3) Select the option : Send Email using Plain Text Only.
(4) Click on 'Ok'

Method (2) : Turning off HTML for ALL emails you send.

(1) Click on Tools Menu. Select Options.
(2) Select the 'Send' tab.
(3) In the 'Mail sending format' select : 'Plain Text'

You may further check the 'Plain Text' settings. The best settings are:

    (a) Message Format : Mime
    (b) Encode Text Using : Whichever you wish... Base64 is recommended.
    (c) Automatically Wrap Characters : 76
    (d) Indent Original Text with '>'
    (e) Click on 'Ok'

(4) Select 'Ok'

I would recommened the second method, that is turn off the HTML altogether.
Not that HTML is not good or has any problems. Plain Text is just a lot
simpler and there are benefits, like smaller email size (hence faster send
process) viewable by all (many of Indians still use Shell access to read
mail and HTML looks horrible using Shell) etc.
