Query on Impeachment Procedure
20th Jan 1999 RAJESH AGRAWAL @wipsys.ge.com
Hi Now that the US Senate is hearing the impeachment trial of their President, my curiosity gets intense. I want to know the procedure to impeach an Indian President (or for that matter a Judge of the Supreme court). Can any constitutional expert or student of political science please enlighten me on this. Just saying that a two-third majority is needed in Parliament will not be an answer to my query. It would be appreciated if the entire procedure is given. And please don't misconstrue this question that I want the present President be impeached. In fact, he is doing a fine job. Keep Faith....Rajesh

Some years back one of the supreme court judges was found guilty of some deeds which probably constituted a breach of judgelike conduct. His case was discussed in the parliament and congress at the last minute decided not to issue any whip. The judge was aquitted as not guilty. His plea was that every one is doing the same why punish only me? as I could understand it from the version given in those days newspapers. You may study the case. It is an eye-opener and Clinton may get something out of it.
