Drive around vacation

A couple of friends and I are planning to take a one/two week vacation in November. We are planning to hire a good car like the Safari and just drive around the country. No reservations, no fixed halts. Has anyone else done this kind of a thing ? Your experience would make our trip all the better. We are going to start from Chandigarh and would like to go around Rajasthan and then further down south ... ____________________ Harpreet Singh Giani

Hi Harpreet, Sounds like an excellent idea. I've not driven much around the country but I've done a lot of trekking and staying in temples and villages and forts. I'd suggest that you take: i) Clothes ii) Medicines iii) Hepatitis vaccinations iv) Your own time And if you don't have any plans it's all the more better. Talk to the villagers, it's great fun, and you get accepted a lot faster than if you odn't get down from your swanky 4-wheel drive. Drink tea at the dhabas, walk a lot. I'm sure it'll be a hit. I'm originally from Rajasthan and the people are very friendly there.

Its a great Idea - If it is all guys - I have done a lot of Road travel myself but since we have had the time and a fixed schedule and with family so we have always planned our trip and gone. I dont think you should have any problems since it is not a holiday season at the moment and Hotels accomodations should be easy to manage. The safari is a good vehicle and sturdy enough to take long driving hours. Take few necessary spares and understand a little about the car to take care of emergencies. Have a good time and maybe when you come back you can share your experiences on this list. I have travelled to Rajasthan (Jaisalmer/ Jodhpur/ Udaipur) from Indore & it was fun. Regards

Rajasthan is a lovely place in the winters. The sun is not too strong. the people are nice and warm but the touristy places like Jaisalmer etc. have the nosey touts in tow always. See BIkaner, go down to Jaisalmer, see Pokharan and on to Jodhpur and from there drive down through Sikar, Nawalgarh, Dandlot etc...to see the famous havelis.....and come up into Delhi. I would advise you to plan your itenerary as it can be quite difficult to get accommodation in Rajstahan during winters. I wish i could do this thing again............but am planning on doing the Rann of kutch this winter.. all the Best anoop singh negi
