You can try for the Chartered Bank. Their card automatically becomes an International Credit Card. I dont why Citi Bank says that they do not give. Citi Bank is looking for clients Kumar Nair

Hell All, The suggestion on Standard Chartered card is reasonable enough. Hongkong bank had a similar card in association with Thomas Cook. Amex cards require corporate sponsorship. But I heard somewhere that all agencies have the same policy for S/W people in the western region of the country. There's also another misnomer here. The Standard Chartered card (and I believe other "international" cards) have a limitation. 1. You can spend in a foreign currency, but you have to repay in Indian Rupees 2. The bank will accept payment if and only if an authorized foreign exchange agent endorses on your passport that you have spent this amount legally. [This means a limit of 3000 USD, for example, per year per head]. So what does it mean? You can use this card for short tours/trips outside the country. Your passport has to be back in the country before the bank sends you the statement] Or, you can use it for on-line real-time web-based payments. >P. S . Send me reply at my personal email address. [email protected] I am sending the reply to the list because the credit card companies do not come out with the limitations upfront. That leads to a lot of confusion and loss in terms of time and effort spent. Regards, Saumya

I have used the Credit card already on more than two ocassions. 1. Getting the passport endorsed is no problem. The Standard Chartered bank also does this. The endorsement need not be endorsed immediately. You can do it at the end of the year as well. 2. As regard US $3000.00 , this is the FTS limit. However if you are travelling on company sponsored tours, you can use up $350 Dollars per day for hotel expenses. 3. This card is ideal for short trips abroad and one great advantage is that you can hire cars abraod. One thing for sure in the US , no rental company will give you a car without a credit card. You don't need an AD certificate from an authorized travel agent anymore. You just pay by cheque as if the card was used in India. In effect, even if you have a certain FTS, it does not matter, because no one is checking anymore. Happy spending
