Information regarding scanners

Dear Inn Mates,
Has anyone used UMAX Scanners. I am interested in buying one for my office
use. Load would be moderate but I am looking for a High quality scanner,
which can give atleast 600DPI resolution.

I use a UMAX scanner (I think it is S12). I think it works fine and it
is a well respected brand in US. They have many models that will meet
your requirements.

I have a Umax Astra 1220P which cost me about Rs. 12500 in October 1998. I
have heard the price has gone down to about Rs. 10000 now.
The Scan quality is next to excellent with perfect scanning @ 1200 DPI. I
could even scan my hand and read the lines which are impossible to see
without a magnifying glass. Photographs are scanned beautifully too.
If you're going for a good quality scanner @ a low price, Umax is the way to
go. It's simple and comes bundled with lots of softwares. However the
scanner is a bit slow compared to HP models. But still it's the best buy :-)
