Hi All, It may be bit naive to put this kind of mail on this discussion list but I am unable to resist myself from doing it. I happened to have couple of experiences which many of you might have had during your life. It would be interesting and enlightening to know how INN mates react/ will react in this kind of situation. I to reacted in my own way but I am sure that I was not satisfied with the way handled the situation. 1. I recently came to Bangalore to start my career. So I had to contact an estate agent to get a decent landlord to give me a comfortable place to live in. At the time agent showed me the house, it had two rooms and 1 cupboard. I told to agent that I want two cupboards so he said that he will arrange the another cupboard if I took the house. I took the house, paid the advance and his commission too. But it has been one month since the contract is signed but there is not sign of full filling the promise he made to me. Now he doesn't even listen to phone calls or my requests. Though the issue is not big and still I am curious to know how one should react it. I probably don't want to sit idle and curse the system. 2. Then I had to have a vehicle also. So I bought the second hand vehicle and gave the old documents of vehicle to an Auto agent to change the ownership in my name. Guy promised one weeks time for the job to be done. After one week, I made seven rounds of him, spending some 200 Rs on auto, made 8 phone calls. After spending enough of my energy and time I ended up getting the documents after 2 weeks after the scheduled time. So people, please share you reactions and similar kind of experiences with me and make my soul live with some solace. Thanks Amit

Amit Gupta, I have been in business for the past 20 years now - I have had innumerable experiences wherein I have been cheated of my money from all sorts of people and companies - even MMTC which was a Govt of India undertaking before it was made into a Public Limited Company. I have lost fantastic amount of funds in this 20 years but I have learnt to take all this in good stride and not worry about it b'coz then it would cause heartburn and tension which would affect my health - I consider Money to be a commodity which is very essential but is not the only thing in Life and by Gods grace I have been able to survive all ups & downs inspite of these monies being eaten up. I had taken pagers for my offices from Radiant connect which had some collaboration with Crompton Greaves I believe but after only 1 month I lost my connection, my deposit everything b'coz the company wound up its services - I tried consumer grievances cell but it's a farce - atleast in Indore - it takes for ever and I cant afford to waste time. There are many such experiences. All this has however taught me one thing - dont get tempted into get rich schemes and do only what one can handle himself. It is impossible to do business without trusting and so when you do part with your money in advance - try to ascertain the credibility of the company / person (though this is no guarantee). Pay little more even but pay later if possible rather than give an advance. Like I said - inspite of all this I still suffer small losses but have not let it affect my mind and health. Regards

OK, here's one to mull over. On the way back from work a couple of months ago on my scooter, the clutch cable got disengaged, so I could not change gears on the vehicle. This happened very near the factory. I pushed the scooter some distance to a mechanic's shop in a nearby slum area. The fellow as usual removed the engine cowling and gearbox cover, tinkered around a little, and then told me "Something's loose, shall I open the gearbox and check it?" I figured that was all right, so I told him to go ahead. He removed the gear box housing and told me "The second gear wheel has come loose, shall I repair the problem?" I'm supposed to be a trained engineer - but I fell into the trap neatly. Ten minutes later, before I could realise what was going on, I was looking at pieces of the engine lying in the mechanic's tray! He then tells me that if I had run "A few more yards" with the broken gear wheel, I would have ruined the engine. By now I am a little panicky, but the engine is already down. It's got to be repaired anyway. I tell him to do the needful. The next I know, he says the crankshaft cannot be refitted without facing the sides, the bearing shell has to be reground, the bearing itself replaced... I suppose you can guess the rest. It cost me three days of running around behind that fellow and nearly 1,600 rupees to recover my scooter. I had to go back to him again for restoring the foot rest fittings which he had "forgotten" to replace. At the end of this mess, he had the gall to tell me "Sir, I guarantee the work I have done, I will do repairs free for you if the scooter breaks down anytime in the next two years!" The 2nd gear still gives me problems :-( My regular mechanic confirmed that I was simply the latest victim of a hoax which is regularly perpetrated by unscrupulous mechanics on any 'bakra' they can latch on to. The actual cost to me to get my problem repaired on that day should have been not more than 15 rupees! Well, I did learn a lesson, albeit costly, from all this anyway... -- Sriram

My dear Amit,I do not know your age but I am above 60 and I want to tell you that people in India have losy value for word and promises. You will come acros such situations everyday everywhere and every place.I have stopped believing people and always know that they do not mean what they say and promise. Just accept them as they are. It will be futile to do anything else.

Dear Mr. Dani, I felt sad reading your mail. It's unfortunate that we are reduced to becoming cynical about people and about life *because* of people. Ishita

dear ishita, thank you for letter.I know how all those who will read my reply will feel. In my life time I have done a lot for the country, and in turn for the people. But I feel sad to see that the independent India is not what I had expected to be when I celebrated the day in 1947. Then I was in school and felt proud. Today we do not know we are coming or going. People are not mature at all. More than half the population is not interested as to what sort of government we get. Under British we behaved well and did our jobs correctly. To day I cannot point at one place where people work to their full capacity, including private sector. Management training is all fake and we are only trying to copy Americans. We have lost our heritage, love for our history, our culture, and under the facade of globalisation we are just drifting. I see that on the streets, at homes, in offices ,in hotels, at the airport. Do not think I have become cynical. I do not have an answer.I am being bold enough to say that something is wrong with the people. I am neither from the press nor political party to say which I know is wrong.

There are a lot of mechanics roaming around in Delhi also. You park the Maruti car, and after a while you start and it stops in a a few yards. Luckily a mechanic passing by stops to help you. He says it could be condenser problem and by chance he has one in his bicycle. He demands Rs 100 and settles for 80 or 90. He then fixes the condense and sure enough the car starts and goes on. We found that the condenser was fixed with a screw on some part of bidy and not even connected. The car worked with old condenser only. They do something with the car that it stops soon. Dharam

O, Lovely young and the old friends: Go to Indian Railway platforms, you will find that everyone is travelling, go to market place to find all are purchasing, go to temple to find everyone worshiping God, go to any wine shop to find everyone is drinking, go to 5 star hotels to find every room is booked. Mind is the source and lips and toungue are quick at its service . Be sometimes with yourself in some lone corner to find out what thoughts are coming with what speed. If we have been brought up in a negative situation or living in a negative situation, our thoughts get conditioned and we unknowingly prevent ourselves from seeing the positive side. Suppose everything is wrong. Then question arises, who is going to correct it. Is it that some angle will come to set everything right ??!! If you have spent 60 years only witnessing negative things, now is the time for you to join me to combat the situation else we go empty hand with no record of doing any thing on this earth except feeding this never satisfied belly. Make this living a little bit memorable by playing our part. Are you ready or this offer will also go in your negative box. Excuse me, if I say that sensing your AURA from here, I find your parts of the brain upto medulla oblongata are depressed, however health aura is balanced. I assure if you join us, you will be a vibrant person writing quite different here to "Inn All India Mailing List". I am confident that you and only you are the persons who can set the things right with assistants like me. Dear Mr Dani, The irony of the situation is that there are many people out there who feel the same way as you do yet there is no collective effort to do anything about the problems. Everyone seems to have given up. Ishita

Dear friends, It is time we look at 'system of alternate medicine' seriously. Allopathy or 'the modern medicine' is scoffed at by many educated persons because of the side effects, doctor-pharma nexus etc. Even a qualified medico will not call this system as perfect science. However, modern medicine is the only system that is backed by proper documentation. This implies that there are checks and balances inspite of many lacunae. I do no know much about Reiki, Pranik healing etc. But, I strongly believe they cannot replace the modern medicine at present. Besides these altenate forms of medicines suffer from the fact that they can be a haven for quacks and hoaxes. It will be a good exercise to discuss even Ayurveda and Homeopathy in this fora. Over to iinn-mates. Dear friends, I am seeing this kind of overt advertising on the list for some time. If it is an advertisement for some business purpose please put it under that 'sponsored' category. To best of my knowledge Reiki has no scientific backing and is surviving without any scientific study. It should be discouraged on that count. As it is it may not be harmful to patients. However it can cause harm if proper medical attention is denied to a patient under its guise. Pramod >Make this living a little bit memorable by playing our part. hi dharam this the most common thing that happens only with maruthi 800, the reason is, if your car suddenly decides not to start, you just go and check under the petrol tank behind the wheel, there is a petrol filter, now if you see the petrol filter, these guys, remove the petrol pipe to the filter and they insert a pencil into this so that your car engine will not receive the petrol and it will not start, there is also a possibilty that it will go few yards and will stop. this what the road side crook mechanics do and afterwards they will come to help you by fixing new condenser and will charge you atlest rs.600. so all maruti 800 owners remember this, you could be the next ! sunil -----Original Message----- From: wlink> >There are a lot of mechanics roaming around in Delhi also. >You park the Maruti car, and after a while you start and it stops in a a >few yards. U see maruti is a foreign car. Rs600 is nothing but if they actually de-assemble it that is take off all the parts, then it is impossble to join them back, and then the car is history. i gat a professional WIAA person who told us the same story. sumeet

Hi Everyone! First of all, I thank everyone for responding to my mail titled "Some experiences". Some mails told me about similar experiences of people ...which made me convince that I am not the only one bearing the brunt of the bad world out here. Well this is what I did in both the situations. In both the situations I reported to the police and police acted in very efficient and fair manner. In first case ( where I did not get the cupboard), I got the cupboard within 12 hours and in the second case( poor service by Auto consultant) I ended up paying 100 Rs less than the agreed fees. And all this happened when I am from Delhi and Police and other parties involved were from Bangalore. Do local contacts matter? I was lucky that I got the success... but the way to success was really exhausting. I had to spent 6 hours extra in both cases to go to the police station, explaining them the problem( language was a big hurdle) and the negotiating with both guys. But I was lucky enough that I did not have to pay any bribe to any of the policeman. Anyway the end result was diagonally opposite to what I was expecting. It has given me enough confidence for the future....but am I being too optimistic? And last but not the least. When I told this incident to one of my friends.....his suggestion was to stay from the police, because a record with police station may hamper or stop one's passport or visa processing which may ultimately throw water on one's plans to land into land of opportunity. Thanks People. Amit

Hi all, Well, after going through all the mails in this thread, I wonder why are we so pessimistic and are not believing our own friends. Come on guys, world is not that bad. Let me share what I went through recently. My car stopped(Empty Tank :)) in the middle of the traffic junction (South End Circle@Bangalore). Well, all our cultured car owners went on honking when I was trying to push the car sideways. Seeing my plight, guess who came to rescue? The street kids who were selling cleaning clothes came to my help and pushed the car. I don't think we are so bad. Just my 0.02$ :) Rgds GP
