Some ideas for India
2nd Feb 1999 Srinath Srinivasa @usa.net
Hi iinn-mates! I would like to introduce some of the ideas that were posted by people in the "Ideas for India (IfI)" database (http://www.indiapolicy.org/ifi/). I would like to invite you to comment on those ideas and give some more of your own. The endeavor is to open up concrete directions for progress. Anil Kelkar has two ideas about pollution in cities. He has an idea for encouraging car pooling during peak hours, by requiring cars during certain times of the day and in certain areas to have a minimum number of passengers. He also has an idea about using compressed natural gas (CNG) efficiently in mass transport. Subbalakshmi has three ideas. She has an idea about maintaining greenery in urban areas with the help of private enterprises. The second idea concerns the importance of mass transport in preventing vehicular pollution. The third idea concerns the revival of traditional forms of medicine by integrating traditional medicine centers under one roof. Sriram has an idea about waste management in urban areas. I have posted a few ideas myself, the latest one asking whether we should have a limit on the number of political parties to prevent coalition politics and infighting. Dr Subroto Roy has an idea that Indian judiciary should treat crimes which violate constitutional rights as separate from ordinary crimes. Vikram Murarka has two ideas about building enthusiasm among Indians to address our problems. I would like to thank all the contributors of ideas and hope that they create some added value. Your ideas and comments solicited. -srinath -- Send in your ideas to address challenges of Indian life: http://www.indiapolicy.org/ifi
