31st Oct 1999      Jagdeep Nagdev @bom7.vsnl.net.in

Hi! Everyone
I would like to get some info on IDP. Before that I shall tell u the
    foll
1. I do not have a normal licence . i basically want to go through a
channel from where I can get both the Indian as well as the IDP. of course
I am well aware that one has to acquire the Indian licence before one goes
for the Intnl one. 2. These motor training schools promise IDP after the
normal licence is issued is this true do they actually give the IDP. 3.
Which is the fastest way to acquire IDP after one acquires the normal
licence. 4. Anyone from B'bay who can tell me which is a good motor
training school in B'bay(i stay at Sion) which shall serve my purposes.
Pls guide me with my queries. I shall be grateful. Thanks!! in advance.
                   Regards
                   Jagdeep

Hi

There is a Guide Motor Training School, halfway between the hospital and
the circle on the same side as Sion Hospital, a little beyond
Cosmopolitan.

You can get both licences on the same day, if you are lucky. Once you have
the local licence, you have to apply for the IDP - there is no test for it
and you get it virtually immediately. I know, I did it.

With regards

MFM

Hi,
An IDP can be got for a sum of Rs 200 only payed at the cash counter .(RTO
Andheri) go at 10.30 am ,get your Passport details verified and pay the
cash ,then go home . The process takes 20 min ,if no crowd is present .

Collect the IDP between 4 to 5 pm the same day ,strictly .

OF course do get your indian License first .

I suggest dont go thru the school for the IDP .The process is very
friendly as you get the IDP the same day .

Jagdeep,

In response to your questions about the IDP, I have personally been in a
similiar situation where I was leaving for the US in a matter of weeks and
didn't have either the Indian license nor an IDP. I contacted the WIAA
office near Churchgate Station and they were very helpful, and I got both
before I left.

Hope this helps,

Dhruv
