21st Jan 1999      ANURAG.ADUKIA @giasbma.vsnl.net.in

Hi Freinds,
Im Anurag, and new to this forum. i would like to discuss the Character
of Shiv sena in the Indian politics. Mumbai has faced enough of it's rule.
It long enough that we have gone through the trauma. Its high time we
should have a discussion over it.
India is a democratic country but SS is ruling it as if it's Dicatorship.
Please give me your views about the party and its leadership. Waiting for
your views.
Regards,
Anurag

Hi

The only thing that Shiv Sena, BJP, other political parties, bureaucrats and
people in general need to be reminded is four very good lines written by
Kaifi Azmi (most probably, though I'm not sure of the poet):

Jo Saahib-e-Masnad Hain Kal Nahin Honge
Kiraaydaar Hain Makaandaar Thodi Hi Hain
Sab Kaa Khoon Hai Saamil Is Mitti Main
Hindustan Kisi Ke Baap Ka Thodi Hi Hai

Rough translation into English:
Those who rule today will not be there tomorrow
they are tenants, not land-lords
everybody has contributed towards this country's mite
India is not someone's personal belonging

It is amazing that some one has finally come out with it. They have
been running on a high for so long and got away with so much that they
have become overconfident and complacent.
Indeed I consider them a bunch of fanatics who have managed to
brainwash a lot of people. But remember it was the other political
parties who were soft peddling them for a long time. The Shiv Sena did
not spring over night. They were allowed to get away with a lot of
things even before they were in power.
They really amaze me. The idiots really think that the city of Bombay
belongs to them! Calling it Mumbai hah!
You know what takes the cake! some one of those clowns in power
telling the ticket collectors to slap any one who comes to buy a
ticket and does not speak Marathi and at the Vashi railway station.
Well what do I say? There is obviously a lot of pent up anger towards
them so I will desist from saying
anything more.
And believe me they have got away with it so far and will run the city
down the drain! Someone told me Bombay used to be a happening city it
is now a happened city. How right he was.

Dear Anurag, unknown to yourself, you have already answered your
question.

Democracy is another name for the dictatorship of the majority. Sometime it
rules by 51% and other times by 67% etc. There is nothing you can do if a
majority goes berserk.

Lenin was correct when he declared USSR to be dictatorship of the
proletariat as he saw it.

There have been different form of government and none is perfect.
Newton's first law of inertia, is still true when applied to human beings.
Most people are inert and apathetic and any clever individual can make
them go in any direction by just a very little force.

Do you think they have a character.
They seem to be only a bunch of goondas who are in power because we the
common & educated people are indifferent to our society. It is we who
have left the nation for such people to rule.
We have no one but ourselves to blame for all this.
It is time that educated people come together and form a strong group
that should actively participate in politics of the country and do their
social duty by steering the nation towards a positive future.

It is true that "India can be Different, if we are not Indifferent" and
let us all make it happen.
Humanist Part [ http://differentindia.org/hp ] is an attempt in this
direction.
