Hi!
Well there is one common factor that judges the performance of a branded
and a assembled PC. It is the quality of the components installed. If an
assembler uses very good branded components than you need not complain
about your PC. But you have to look out for an reliable assembler. And you
need to take into concern the guarantee from the assemblers, which always
is impossible or not reliable. But in the case of an Branded PC, you have
many benefits like guarantee of your PC, and also your PC can be of good
quality and performance. You can also redress your grievances to the
consumer court if necessary. Regards, Yaseen Ahmed [email protected]

Assembled: You save a lot but you need to make sure the dealer is realiable
(check for how many years he has been in business, he client list etc).
Support is the most important thing.

Branded: you pay a LOT more but usually warranty is guaranteed.

Dear Neena,

I hv been using an assembled comp for the last 2 years and i am facing no
problems now. ofcourse during the initial dats there were problems which
were mainly due to wrong configs.

It took me around 2 months to set these things right and now the syatem is
running fine.

Due to the presence of a large scale grey market, sometimes both s/w and h/w
components can very unreliable. so it is very important that u know the
vendour before hand. in my case even i knew the guy, the after sales service
was pretty bad.

And regarding price-- you can bargain to almost any price (depending upon
the features etc). Normally take a base price of a branded one...the
assembled one will be atleast 30 to 40% lower than that.

Hi,

I have found that assembled pcs are the best. You choose the components and
no big problem is some thing goes. Yes, you need a good assembler and tech
support is tricky. You have to keep chasing them but I find that it is at
times easier to chase one man then get an engineer from a company.

always go in for an assembled one.
the biggest reason being the cost for identical configuration machines is
nearly half in case of assembled computers. things go obsolete so fast in
comp hardware that the "for ever" concept is really not valid in
computers.also as most of the components used by assemblers as well as
branded ones are the same (like seagate hard disks and intel processors
)the end product is really not very different. speaking from personal
experience i have got better response every time from local assemblers
then a leading indian brand (whose monitor went bust the first day) and
who tried to keep me busy in writing letters to the top brass in the
company instead of straightaway replacing the faulty piece.the best
service in branded pcs is reserved for corporates and bulk buyers and not
for a single computer buyer unlike in the case of assemblers where the
individual comprises of the majority of their customers.another dirty
trick employed by leading brands is to price their pc at the same level as
the assembled one and then to compromise on the configuration-like giving
a 4gb disk where the assembler(and the norm) is for a 6gb disk or giving a
celeron or amd 300 instead of a p-ii 300.

Hi Neena!
In india after sales is what matters all the companys
promise to give it but very few live up to their word.

If u buy a branded pc u have a mental satisfaction
that u can get in touch with them for all your
problems, reason being they have a strong base in
india and they cannot run away, assembled PCs are very
cheap and there are about lakhs of people doing it but
then u cant rely on them since they have no base and
network to handle large volume of customers so even if
they want to they cannot give proper after sales $
service to u.

So it is better that u buy a Branded Pc and check the
presence of that company since how long they have been
in business and how is their after sales and service
ask for testimonials if they have some.

As i said earlier Prices will be different if u buy a
branded Pc and it will be cheaper if u buy a assembled
one, But if u know some one really well who is into
assembles Pc Business whom u can trust then i would
advice u to go in for assembled Pc U will save on
money as well have the latest PC.

I hope this information is usefull to u , incase if u
want anymore on it please let me know.

Mr.Shaabar,
Though I happen to work for an organization vending one of the branded PCs, but
I too fully agree with your view on after sales support. Yes, for the small time
vendors, its the one off customers ( SOHO Segment) who are their revenue earners
and does focus on the customers issues.

At the same time, it is also a fact that the service of the machine depends
ultimately on the vendor who sell and his atitude. The logic above does not hold
good if " his" intentions are not noble.

So I suggest that a branded /MNC PC from a " vendor next door" is the best
combination for a " one time purchaser".....as such the MNC products come with
three years warrenty on parts, so it boils down to how efficiently that guy
servicesw. And ofcourse the " useful" S/Ws ( not Games packages ofcourse) like
Lotus SmartSuite, Predictive failurre tool, licenced OS, Network Mahagement
software, so on and so forth.......adds upto around Rs.20-25
thousand......choice is urs

Thanks & Regards
