Diwali on 2 days

4th Nov 1999      Pranav Lal @softhome.net

Hi all,

Why is that some people celebrate diwali on say day x and some celebrate
on day x+1?

Pranav

My geometry teacher was sometimes acute, and sometimes
obtuse, but always, he was right.

Simple ..

We try to finish our joy, enthusiasm and crackers on first day ("Bari
Deepawali").

Unifinished is spent on next day ("chhoti Deepawali")

I dont know historical significance ...

In north india it celebrated, because on that day Lord RAMA returned to
ayodhya. In south india its celebrated because Lord KRISHNA killed
"Narkasura" ..

I will appreciation if someone can share some more info on this issue

Firstly, sabhi iinn-mates ko diwali ki haardik subhkaamnayen -

I would say, Neeraj has got things the other way round - Choti Diwali is
celebrated on the day *before* the actual Diwali day which is the Bari
Diwali

For example, Choti Diwali was celebrated yesterday (6th) and 11 diyas
were
worshipped. Today (7th) is the main Diwali festival day - Bari Diwali -
today 21 diyas, one main big diya and Ganesh and Laxmi are worshipped.
Nevertheless, Why two days I too don't really know.

Regards

Vani
